This is the promotions pack being sent to Verizon stores box for the Motorola Android Devour (aka the Calgary), which we’re going to see on Verizon any time now. MotoBLUR gets top billing here, with “Live life for the Story” the Moto motto.

Still no word on when you’ll be able to pick one up, but it’s got to be soon at this point.

We just suffered here from the same problem that Phones Review talked about in December: we turned our Droid on and all the pop3 email accounts and emails disappeared.
Apparently people are talking about this problem in forums for several months and no reply from Verizon, Google, or Motorola.
Here are some of the forums that mention the problem:

Here is the open bug in Google:

Let us know if you had this bug too.

Wow, what a difference a year makes. It wasn’t that long ago that we were sounding the death tone for Motorola. A company that had risen so high with their popular Razr cellphone several years back and fallen into a black hole of a slump, churning out crappy and unoriginal handsets left and right. And then came Android with it’s open architecture and high level of customization that helped Motorola find their groove again when they released the Motorola DROID back in November of 2009.

As many of you know however, the DROID isn’t Motorola’s only Android device. Here in the states they’ve also got the Cliq and Backflip with many more in the wings. It is this momentum and laser focused attention on Android and Android only that is paving the way for Motorola to take over the title of #1 Android manufacturer from HTC.

A new Motorola Droid tweak created by AllDroid, lets users run the Verizon Wireless smartphone at an 800 MHz clock speed (as compared to 600 MHz) without making the phone unstable. The tweak has been tested up to 1.3 GHz clock speed, but more than doubling the speed makes the Motorola Droid very unstable.

Motorola hints at Google phone and more in Q4 earnings call

January 29, 2010 by admin · View Comments

Motorola reported their Q4 earnings today and revealed some interesting Android news. The company actually showed progress in transforming to a smartphone company and reported a profit for Q4, but issued a disappointing profit forecast for the start of 2010.

“First, in smartphone, we plan to launch at least 20 devices, including at least one direct-to-consumer device with Google.”

This news comes with little surprise. We saw Sanjay at the Nexus One launch and already knew Motorola would sell a device in the Google phone store. Details about the device are still scarce, but rumors suggest it will be called the Motorola Shadow (see concept image above).

“CLIQ, BACKFLIP, and the majority of our new smartphone this year will feature MOTOBLUR. MOTOBLUR is our application and services suite that runs on Android platform.”

Nothing too new here. Motorola previously told us they wanted to include Motoblur on all their Android phones. The exceptions would be the Droid and whatever phone launches in the Google phone store. We think Google controls the software on those phones which is why they include stock Android.

Motorola Android Cliq Software 1.3.8 Leaked, Official Update Coming Soon?

January 29, 2010 by admin · View Comments
Filed under: CLIQ

Motorola had “accidently” released a test version of the update (Software version 1.3.8) for the Motorola Cliq. According to the description of the update, software 1.3.8 included improvements to the battery life, touchscreen sensitivity, improved GPS tracking, a new option for assigning functionality to a double-press of the home button, and more. As quickly as the update was leaked, it was soon pulled after approximately 15 mins. What does this leak mean? Well, it could mean that Motorola Cliq owners could be getting an official update pretty soon.

What is this mysterious Motorola Android device?

January 28, 2010 by admin · View Comments
Filed under: Motorola Zeppelin

The guys at mobile.cz somehow managed to scrounge up this shot, and they’re calling it the Motorola “Zeppelin”.

According to the original source, its packing a 5 megapixel camera, a 3.2″ HVGA display, GPS, and Android behind Motorola’s BLUR user interface. It also looks to have touch sensitive keys, and what is either a D-pad or a touch sensitive trackpad right below the screen.

It’s a bit lower end than the Droid, but a bit higher end than the CLIQ.
