COMPARISON: HTC EVO 4G VS. MOTOROLA DROID

KEY DIFFERENCES
4G: The HTC Evo 4G is the first phone on a U.S. network to boast 4G connectivity, making it capable of connecting to Sprint’s WiMax network (where available) and enabling the device to reach peak download speeds of over 10 Mbps and peak upload speeds of 1 Mbps. In areas without 4G connectivity, the EVO will still operate on Sprint’s 3G network. Of course, the Motorola DROID connects to Verizon’s speedy 3G network.

Power: The Motorola DROID is a powerful device in its own right, but succeeding the DROID by a number of months, the EVO 4G is at the top of its class, armed with the latest processor and more RAM. The EVO 4G has a 1GHz Snapdragon processor and 512MB of RAM, while the DROID has a 550MHz processor and 256MB of RAM. While the difference may not be significantly noticeable in most day-to-day operations (e.g. checking email), the EVO 4Gwill outperform the DROID, particularly when many applications are running simultaneously.

Display: Like the HTC HD2 (T-Mobile), the HTC EVO 4G is equipped with a huge and gorgeous 4.3-inch touch sensitive 480×800 pixel display. The screen real estate makes the EVO 4G an ideal entertainment device — perfect for watching movies, browsing the web and even reading eBooks. The Motorola DROID also has an impressive and sizable 3.7-inch touch-sensitive display, and with 480×854 pixels, is slightly higher resolution and has significantly more pixels per square inch due to the display’s size differential.

Motorola Android Opus One iDEN Android Phone Stolen and Video’d!

It looks like Motorola (NYSE: MOT) (NYSE: MOT) really does have an iDEN-based Android phone in the works for Sprint (NYSE: S) (NYSE: S)’s Nextel network. Following on a leaked image of the device codenamed “Opus One,” we’ve stumbled upon a new set of hands-on videos that shows off Nextel’s upcoming Android phone in some detail – as much detail as the blur-tasticly choppy video work allows. YouTube user jay84305 apparently snatched the unreleased Android phone off the street somewhere in Florida’s South Beach and posted a trio of videos today, walking us through the Opus One’s push-to-talk features, video camera, Android apps, and other details in the kind of broken, slang-punctuated English befitting someone that would steal a phone from right underneath the owner’s nose.

Here’s what we know about the Motorola Opus One Android phone:

  1. It’s headed to Nextel (and possibly Boost Mobile)
  2. It runs Android 1.5 OS (Cupcake)
  3. It sports the “p1_opusone” model name under its battery cover.

Unknown Motorola Android Titanium visits FCC en route to Verizon or Sprint?

The previously unknown Motorola Titanium visited the FCC with some information that lets us make an educated guess as to which carrier(s) this handset will end up on. The device runs over Ev-Do rev. A which tells us that the Titanium looks Verizon or Sprint bound. Wi-Fi is enabled on this phone and since Motorola is not really doing much in the way of Windows Mobile gadgets these days, we can make the assumption that this will be powered by Android.
