In new ad, AT&T, Luke Wilson say Verizon is slow

The battle between AT&T and Verizon has been peppered by startling doses of objectivity. So to demonstrate the clear, obvious, incontrovertible fact that Verizon’s 3G is but a Wendy’s-stuffing, cake-loving, 15-beers-a-night slob when compared with AT&T’s Usain Bolt, Wilson performs a side-by-side that would put the Pepsi Challenge to shame.

T-Mobile USA has announced that it will be offering 3 of its most popular phones for US$50 less than normal this coming Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (November 27, 28, and 29). The sale is part of the carrier’s big push for the Black Friday weekend, the unofficial start of the holiday shopping season in the U.S.

Two of the devices on sale are hot smartphones. Both the Android-powered Motorola CLIQ and the brand new BlackBerry Bold 9700 will be available this weekend for $149.99, when picked up with a new contract. The third device is Samsung’s Highlight, a full touchscreen equipped feature phone. The highlight will be available for $49.99 this weekend, with a 2 year agreement.

The $50 discount also applies to phones purchased for full retail price without a contract, for those users interested in saving some money with a contract-free T-Mobile Even More Plus plan.

According to new data from WHERE, active users of the much hyped Motorola DROID has doubled in the last few days, suggesting that there are now about 250,000 total units now active.

The WHERE map also shows where the phone is being sold, with New York being the largest adopter, at 12 percent, followed by Los Angeles at 6 percent and Washington DC at 5 percent.

Earlier this week it was reported that 100,000 units had been sold in the opening weekend, so the new numbers suggest positive momentum for the Android 2.0 phone.
