Verizon To Introduce Next Motorola Droid June 23
Verizon Wireless on Tuesday issued invitations to the media and asked them to attend an event to be held in New York City. The invitation said that speakers at the event will include Verizon Wireless’ marketing chief, John Stratton; Google’s lead Android architect Andy Rubin; Motorola Co-CEO Sanjay Jha, and Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen. The invitation clearly says that the companies will announce the next Droid handset for the Verizon Wireless network.
Based on the list of speakers, we can make several assumptions about what’s being announced. First, the device will be made by Motorola (not HTC). Second, since Adobe’s CEO will be present, the device will likely ship with Android 2.2 Froyo and come with Flash Player 10.1 installed. There’s no other reason for Shantanu to be there. The invitation doesn’t share any details about the device itself. The event takes place at Noon on Wednesday, June 23.

Motorola Posts 4Q Profit but Outlook Is Low

- Image via CrunchBase
Motorola Inc. showed progress in its turnaround efforts Thursday but a disappointing profit forecast sent its shares sliding.
Motorola stock fell 73 cents, or 9.9 percent, to $6.67 in morning trading.
The shares are still more than double what they were trading for in March, as optimism has grown that Motorola can salvage its cell phone business. The first fruits of its new approach, the Cliq and Droid smart phones, went on sale in the fourth quarter.
Those phones were well received, and Motorola reporting shipping 2 million units. But overall cell phone sales were lower than expected, at 12 million units. Total revenue came to $5.7 billion, missing the average forecast from analysts of $5.9 billion, according to Thomson Reuters.
However, analysts did not appear to have taken into account that Motorola deferred $200 million in revenue from sales of smart phones, amortizing it instead over two years, in a new accounting step.
Looking ahead, Motorola said it expects a loss in the first quarter of 1 cent to 3 cents per share, excluding unusual items. Analysts expected a profit of 3 cents.
Motorola co-CEO Sanjay Jha said the loss would come from the planned launch of several new smart phones, with the attendant sales, marketing and support costs. At the same time, he expects smart phone sales to be down from the fourth quarter, when Verizon Wireless put a massive push behind the Droid.

Motorola’s next Verizon Android phone pops up in inventory

Verizon’s Cellebrite inventory system showing, next to the Motorola Calgary (otherwise known as the DROID Devour), an Android-powered handset which neither Motorola nor Verizon has officially confirmed yet. You can think of it as the Droid’s younger, ganglier sister; it’s a bit strange looking, a lesser camera (3 megapixels instead of 5), and Motorola’s social-network-centric BLUR user interface.
As mentioned, Verizon’s still keeping mum on this handset, so there’s no word yet on pricing or availability.

Motorola MOTOROI to hit US soon

Motorola’s recently announced MOTOROI is set to hit Stateside this coming March, and we could probably see it be made available via Verizon Wireless. While the MOTOROI lacks a physical keyboard like the Droid, many people are already looking forward to the MOTOROI’s performance in usurping the Droid. Granted, it does look pretty solid in terms of construction and build, where you get a full touchscreen display, an 8-megapixel camera and 720p video playback via HDMI out. Apart from that, you get 8GB of internal memory and a microSDHC memory card slot to augment its storage space. Other features include a 3.7″ LCD display, 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity, and GPS support.

CES 2010 to see two new Motorola Android phones?
Apparently Global Equities Research analyst, Trip Chowdhry and stated that during CES 2010 in Las Vegas next week, Motorola just might be planning to announce a couple of new Android platform mobile phones reports an article over on Barrons.
Chowdhry, in a research note claims Motorola “may announce” a new Android toting phone for AT&T, which apparently sources indicate will sport a physical keyboard, OLED display and might run the “Google experiences” software rather than MotoBlur.
Chowdhry also stated that Motorola “may announce” another Android mobile phone this time destined for Verizon Wireless, which will pack a soft keyboard and OLED screen.
Motorola’s CES event is scheduled for the 6th of January ahead of the official keynote and a day after Google is expected to announce the Nexus One; more on this as and when we hear it.

The Motorola Droid for Verizon Wireless is selling very, very well… there is no denying that. Exactly how well?
